What Do Court Visitors Do?

A Court Visitor is appointed by a judge in guardianship or conservatorship proceedings to serve as an independent, neutral party. Their role is to gather information and provide an objective report to the court about the person at the center of the case—typically someone who may not be able to make fully informed decisions for themselves due to disability, illness, or cognitive decline. They gather this information by:

  • Visiting the person

  • Interviewing interested parties

  • Reviewing medical and financial records

  • Visiting present and potential placements.

The Court Visitor must collaborate with attorneys and other key members of the team when formulating recommendations for the Court. Our Court Visitors are thorough in their work and create individualized reports that incorporate health and safety recommendations. Evidence-based, these reports recommend the best possible course of action for each person’s well-being while maximizing their independence.
